With record temperatures this year, getting into your car can be uncomfortable before your air conditioning kicks in !
These simple tips can help you vehicle stay cooler and make is more comfortable when you first jump into your car
☀️ Use a windshield sunshade
A reflective sunshade blocks sunlight and can lower the dashboard and steering wheel temperature significantly.
🌳 Park in the shade
If possible, park under trees, in a garage, or on the side of a building that will stay shaded while you're away.
🪟 Crack the windows slightly
Leaving the windows open about ½ inch (1–2 cm) lets hot air escape. Do this only if it's safe and secure where you park, and avoid leaving them open if rain is possible.
🚗 Use seat and steering wheel covers
Light-colored covers keep leather and vinyl surfaces from becoming painfully hot.
🔄 Vent the car before driving
Open one door and repeatedly open and close the opposite door a few times to push hot air out quickly. Then start the air conditioning and drive with the windows down for the first minute or two before closing them and using recirculation mode.
Of course, it is Important to never leave children, pets, or anyone unable to exit the vehicle alone in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside can rise dangerously fast.
